“I can afford K30 every month as child support”

A PEASANT farmer from Livingstone has been ordered to pay K350 every month as child maintenance.
Elijah Manayeze was dragged to court by his former lover for failure to support his child, but he told the Livingstone local court that he can only afford to pay K30 as child support.
Mananyeze, 26, was narrating in a case in which his former lover Rita Moonga, 21, of house number D76 Malota compound sued him for child support demanding K500 per month.
Manayeze of Maloni area told Livingstone principal presiding magistrate Harrison Kabwenga that he cannot afford pay K500.
“I cannot afford to pay the money K500 she is demanding. I can only manage to pay K30 as I am a peasant farmer,” he said.
But Moonga told the court that she had an affair with Mananyeze in 2006 which resulted in pregnancy. She said Mananyeze has however never provided support for the upkeep of their child.
