Three ZESCO employees in court for murder

 Trial in the case of three ZESCO employees accused of killing a Senior Zambia Army Officer last September has commenced in the Kasama High court.

Appearing before high court judge Petronella Ngulube were Mwate Siame, Felix Mugala and Kelvin Musonda of Kasama.

The trio are charged with murder contrary to section 200 Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence were that on 5th September 2012, the trio while acting together allegedly murdered Deputy Regional Army Commander Major Niven Mudungu.

And a witness Justine Tembo narrated before High Court Judge Petronella Ngulube that the deceased was beaten up at the Kasama town centre in September last year.

Superintendent Tembo of the Zambia Police Service said one of the accused used a wooden plunk to hit the deceased in the head.

He added that Major Mudungu was then admitted to Kasama General Hospital and transferred to Maina Soko Military Hospital in Lusaka where he later died on 21 September, 2012.

Meanwhile, high court judge Petronella Ngulube adjourned the matter to today for continued trial and remanded the accused persons to Milima State Prisons.
