Mwata Kazembe gives out land

Mwansabombwe, February 20, ZANIS ——- Senior Chief Mwata Kazembe of the Lunda people of Luapula Province has given out the land between Lufubu stream and Mumbolo Primary School for the construction of Mwansabombwe district administrative Centre.

The Senior Chief disclosed this at his Palace when Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Mbololwa Muyaba paid a courtesy call on him.

He said there was some debate over the matter but he put his foot down as he was the only authority to give out customary land to anyone.

Mwata Kazembe added that the land which he has given out was spacious and could accommodate all the government ministries at district level and had room for further expansion.

He said he was grateful that there was consideration by the president to grant Mwansabombwe a district status because it was his father’s yearning and desire to have Mwansabombwe as a district and it has happened now when he, as a son was on the throne.

He said the declaration of Mwansabombwe as a district was the best form of decentralization because it will bring development to the area and create a lot jobs for the people.

The traditional leader said he has played his part and government should speed up the process for development to come closer to the people through the presence of government structures at district level.

He said the challenges in his chiefdom were the same like other places which included high poverty levels, lack of household food security and employment.

And Luapula Province Permanent Mbololwa Muyaba said she was visiting chiefs to introduce herself as the new Permanent Secretary for Luapula province and to familiarise herself with the challenges that they were going through.
