Tanzanian ‘lorry boy’ dies in road traffic accident in Isoka district

A 30-year old Tanzanian lorry boy died on the spot yesterday afternoon in a road traffic accident in Isoka district of Muchinga Province.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Remmy Kajoba confirmed the accident to ZANIS saying it occurred near Vitondo Primary School around 15.50 hours along the Great North Road.

Mr. Kajoba explained that the accident happened when the driver of a Tanzanian truck whose registration number was T353 ARC and trailer number T605, lost control causing the vehicle to carrier off the road and rolled after a front tyre burst.

The truck was in transit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

He said the horse of the truck came off the hook of the trailer before it rolled.

He said the lorry boy, identified as Amiri Ally of Dar-es-Salaam jumping out of the truck but was crushed to death by the same horse.

The driver of the truck, who escaped unhurt, has since run away and police have launched a man hunt.

The body of Ally is lying in Isoka District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
