The Kunda Royal Establishment has expressed concern over the dry spells that have hit the valley district of Mambwe.

ZANIS reports that Kunda Royal Establishment spokesperson John Chilowa confirmed the development in an interview in Mambwe District today.

Mr. Chilowa said that the entire valley has continued to experience long periods of dry spells saying maize and cotton fields have been affected.

This will lead to hunger as most people depend on their agriculture produce for consumption,” he said.

He noted that contrary to meteorological department’s weather focus in the area, the rainfall pattern has been poor.

“Even the water levels in Msandile and Lutembwe rivers are still low,” he said.

He appealed to government to quickly send agriculture officers to assess the area to come up with specific areas that will be worst affected in order to mitigate the situation.
