Over 20 people were last weekend arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for various drug trafficking offences.
DEC Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo said the suspects were arrested for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in cannabis whose total weight is 162.5 kilogrammes.
In a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Ms. Katongo said the suspects were arrested in Limulunga, Choma, Mazabuka, Kabompo, Mufurila and Nchelenge districts.
And Ms. Katongo disclosed that the Commission arrested a 36 years old businessman of Lusaka’s Makeni area for trafficking in undisclosed quantities of cocaine.
She named the suspect as Graig Banda who was apprehended in Lusaka’s Chawama compound.
She said all the suspects will appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, Ms. Katongo has cautioned members of the public against engaging in illicit activities such as drug trafficking and money laundering especially during this festive period.
