Chief Mwinuna of the Lamba people in Mpongwe district has demanded for the speedy installation of electricity in his chiefdom.

Chief Mwinuna has wondered why the installation of electricity to Ipumba area of Mpongwe has stalled despite Government’s directive for power to be installed in the area.Speaking when Mpongwe District Commissioner, George Nsali, paid a courtesy call on him at his palace, Chief Mwinuna stated that lack of power has crippled development in the area.

The chief stressed that urban dwellers are still in fear of relocating to his chiefdom due to the lack of electricity.

Chief Mwinuna further called for the speedy installation of mobile telecommunication facilities by the Zambia Information Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) in his area.

He added that this would help address the numerous communication challenges facing people in his chiefdom.

And Mpongwe District Commissioner, George Nsali, assured that Government would exhaust all avenues aimed at ensuring that power is connected to the area.

Mr Nsali further assured that he would engage the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) to ensure that the demand for electricity in the area is addressed.
