Agro staff introduced to traditional leader

-Chikankhata district agricultural members of staff were yesterday officially introduced to Chieftainess Mwenda.

 

 

Speaking on behalf of the new officers, Chikankata District Agricultural Coordinator (DACO), Anderson Mutinta, said the officers were ready to work and bring development to the newly created district of Chikankata.

 

Mr Mutinta also highlighted issues of accommodation and road to the district office as the most challenges that the new staff will face and requested the chieftainess to assist in any way possible.

 

 

Meanwhile, Chieftainess Mwenda thanked the officers for the visit and stated that she was willing to support development in Chikankata disitrict.

 

The tradition al leader said she had written a project proposal to government for a factory to be established in the area that will be processing and adding value to potatoes which are extensively grown and doing well in the area in terms of yield.

 

She added that a milling factory was another project that was proposed in order for the district to produce its own mealie meal from the excellent harvest of maize.

The chieftainess also appealed to government to help develop the district by building a college of agriculture to motivate local farmers.

 

She noted that she was a lay person where agriculture was concerned, but was willing to assist in finding solutions to problems the district will encounter.
