Business and Investment unit for people with disabilities has commended the Choma Municipal Council for having recognized persons with disabilities  as one of the most vulnerable groups Zambia has.

Provincial Coordinator Chantry Mweemba  says the Choma Municipal council should be hailed for the gesture.

He said the council should also be emulated by all sectors of society as it is in conformity with the United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

Mr. Mweemba stated that Zambia is party of the convention and also has the persons with disabilities act number 6 of 2012, and as espoused by the patriotic front Manifesto.

This is contained in a press statement made available to ZANIS in Livingstone today.

Mr. Mweemba noted that disabled persons have been subjected to untold marginalization by society which believes disability is inability.

“Since time in history ,persons with disabilities have had extremely minimal access to land, education, employment , business development services , access to credit and many other important services”, he
said.

He however, urged the Choma council to go a step further by checking their records to establish how many persons with disabilities were among the more than 2000 applicants that they only managed to allocate five plots
