The Choma Magistrate Court has sentenced a 29 year old ‘Garden Man’ to three years six months with hard labour for breaking into a Building and committing a felony.

Kelvin Mwaanga of Old Kabanana Compound in Choma was charged with breaking into a shop and stealing groceries valued at over K6, 000, property of Misheck Kalwani.

Public Prosecutor Coillard Sikwalula stated that the accused was spotted at the market by the complainant trying to exchange a bottle of cooking oil with alcohol.

When questioned about the source of the cooking oil, the State explained that the accused failed to give a satisfactory answer, forcing the complainant to drag him to Choma Central Police Station.

Mwaanga accepted the charge after being interrogated by Police, later leading the officer to the crime scene at old Kabanana Market and his house where he had hidden some of the loot.

In mitigation, Mwaanga begged the Court for forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ.

In passing the three years six months judgement, Magistrate Mupemo Phiri considered the fact that he was the first offender who readily pleaded guilty to the charge.

She informed him of his right to appeal within 14 days to the High Court.
