The Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested an accountant in Solwezi for fraudulent false accounting and theft involving over K 2.4 million.

Geophrey Mulenga Chanda, 34, of Plot Number 8822, Off Kansenshi Road, Miketi area in Solwezi has been arrested and charged with 21 Counts of Fraudulent False Account Contrary to Section 326 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Details in this matter are that on unknown dates but between 1st September 2012 and 30th September 2013 in Lusaka, Chanda, being Trainee Credit Manager at Zambia Breweries Plc, with intent to defraud, falsified client accounts in the Zambia Breweries client account system known as SYSPRO purporting to show that a certain Atheneon Engineering Limited transferred various amounts totaling 1,063,687.02 to Kanongolo General Dealers and Santa-Flo General Dealers when in fact not.

Furthermore, Geophrey Mulenga Chanda has been Charged with 69 Counts of Theft by Servant contrary to Section 272 as read with Section 278 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Details are that on unknown dates but between 1st August 2012 and 30th November 2013 in Lusaka, Chanda, being Trainee Credit Manager at Zambia Breweries Plc, stole a total sum of 1,435,800.00 from Zambian Breweries Plc, which came into his possession on account of Zambian Breweries Plc.

Chanda has since been released on bond and is due to appear in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court tomorrow 24th January 2018.
