Lusaka High Court

A SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD maid has told a Chingola magistrate’s court how her employer’s workmate raped her and gave her K2 to buy pain killers.
This is in a matter in which Hendrick Chambale, 22, of 32 Kanongesha Road in Chiwempala Township in Chingola, is charged with rape which occurred on December 22, 2015.
The girl told Chingola Senior Resident Magistrate Shadreck Chanda that Chambale, who worked with her boss at Zambeef in Chiwempala, raped her when he was sent to deliver medicine for a sick child.
She said on the material day she was nursing her employer’s child at home and when the situation worsened, she called her boss Delphine Mate, who is Chiwempala Zambeef manager.
The girl said Ms Mate informed her that she was busy and would instead send Chambale to deliver the medicine for the child.
“After bringing the medicine which was given to him by my boss, Chambale pushed me and forced himself on me. He then pulled my skirt and pants and had sex with me.
“When I shouted for help, no one heard me and when he finished he dressed up and gave me K2 so that I could buy Cafenol,” she said.
She, however, did not buy the pain killer but bought airtime which she used to call her boss to inform her of the incident.
“Your honour, Chambale instructed me to buy cafenol but I went to the shops and bought talk time which I used to call my boss and narrated my ordeal,” she said.
Ms Mate said she was at work when her maid called to inform her that Chambale had raped her when he took medicine for the sick child.
“I sent my workmate Chambale to give the maid some medicine for the baby and she called me that she had been raped. I rushed home and took her to the police station and after we were given a medical report, I took her to Chawama Clinic where the doctor confirmed that the girl was indeed raped,” she said.
Trial continues next week on Tuesday.
