LUSAKA High Court judge Anessie Banda-Bobo yesterday sentenced a Lusaka businessman to life imprisonment with hard labour for murdering his wife’s lover in July 2012.

This was in a matter in which Joseph Moyo, now 34, of Kanyama township, was charged with murder contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that Moyo between July 8 and 9, 2012, a few months following his release from prison for an offence of malicious damage, murdered James Mbewe, 25, whom he caught having sex with his wife, Rozewin, in their matrimonial home.

According to court records, Moyo, who whilst in prison had received information that his wife was having an affair with Mbewe, severely beat up the deceased after he caught them in a sexual act on the material day.
It was heard during trial that Mbewe had sustained a swollen head and multiple body injuries to an extent that his mother could not recognise him except by a short toe, which was cut in his childhood.

However, Moyo denied killing Mbewe, whom he claimed was killed by a mob after he caught him and his wife having sex at a guesthouse and that the deceased had fled the scene naked.
