Serenje suspect escapes from lawful custody

–A suspected criminal in Serenje district in Central Province has escaped from lawful custody after running away from a hospital bed.

 

Central Province Police Commissioner, Lombe Kamukoshi, confirmed the development to ZANIS in a telephone interview.

 

Ms Kamukoshi identified the suspect as Terry Chikamba, 33, of Low Density area in Serenje Boma who was admitted to Serenje District Hospital before he escaped from lawful custody yesterday around 05:00hrs.

 

“Chikamba escaped from a hospital bed where he was receiving treatment after being involved in a road traffic accident on February 19 when leading Police officers from Chingola to Serenje where the motor vehicle he had alleged to have stolen was,” Ms Kamukoshi explained.

 

She said Chikamba, who eluded a police officer who was guarding him, was facing an offence of theft of motor vehicle registration number ACX 3218 which police has since recovered.

 

The Central Province Police Commissioner said police has since launched a manhunt for Chikamba.
