Lungu appoints Mulenga Sata as MP and Deputy Minister at State House

PRESIDENT LUNGU ANNOUNCES MORE CHANGES
Lusaka, Monday, 2nd February 2015—His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia has nominated former Barclays Bank Managing Director Mrs. Margaret Mwanakatwe as a Member of Parliament and subsequently appointed her Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry.

President Lungu has also nominated His Worship, the Mayor of Lusaka, Mr. Mulenga Sata, as Member of Parliament and appointed him Deputy Minister at State House.

The appointments are with immediate effect.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe has an illustrious career in the banking sector both at home and abroad. She has served as managing director for Barclays Bank-Ghana and as United Bank Africa Director for Business Development among others. The President says he will appoint as many women as possible to senior positions in a bid to make gender equity a reality in Zambia.

President Lungu has also appointed Mr. Boniface Chimbwali as Permanent Secretary for Luapula Province. In a pre-appointment brief, the President urged Mr Chimbwali to quickly accelerate the delivery of services to the people because the Patriotic Front Government owes the people of Luapula a lot.

“For the people I know personally I have a strong message that I will not hesitate to remove you from office for non-performance or mal-practice. We want you to go and sail the boat and rock it. People have given us unwavering support and we owe them delivery,” President Lungu said.

Meanwhile, the President has appointed Registrar of Societies, Mr Kakoma Kanganja to the position of Deputy Inspector-General of Police taking over from Dr Solomon Jere whose appointment has been terminated. Dr. Jere will be re-deployed into the Foreign Service.The Head of State has also terminated the appointment of Ms. Brenda Muntemba Sichilemba as Commissioner of Police and re-deployed her into the Foreign Service.

The President has transferred North-Western Province Commissioner Mr. Eugene Sibote to Eastern Province swapping with Ms. Grace Chipalila while Police Commissioner for Western Province Lombe Kamukoshi swaps with Central Province Commissioner Stanwell Lungu.

The President has promoted North-Western Province Deputy Commissioner Auxensio Daka to Commissioner for Muchinga Province and transferred Mr Bonnie Kapeso to Southern Province in the same capacity.

The President has terminated the contract of Commissioner of Police for Lusaka Province Remmy Kajoba and replaced him with Mrs Charity Katanga who moves from Northern Province in the same capacity.Commissioner of Police in-charge of operations at Service Headquarters, Mr. Fanwell Siandege has been sent on leave pending the expiry of his contract on 15th February 2015.

The President has informed the Inspector general of Police Mrs Stella Libongani of these changes, which take effect immediately. The President spent most of the morning meeting all the affected individuals and calling those from outside Lusaka to inform them of his decisions.
