Kasama, January 16th, 2015, ZANIS  —  Northern Province permanent secretary Hlobotha Nkunika has directed the provincial medical office to avail to him a list of civil servants in the health sector who have not reported to their original stations.

Mr. Nkunika says it was sad that some districts were lacking health staff when the establishment was showing the officers were drawing salaries for those same districts.

He was speaking during a provincial epidemic preparedness meeting held at the provincial planning unit conference Hall in Kasama today.

Earlier, Nsama district commissioner Panji Chilingala complained of the shortage of staff in his area.

Mr. Chilingala said Nsama district had only eight qualified staff who were carrying out health services despite the increase in population in the district.

He also called on the ministry of health to construct a laboratory in the district.

The meeting also head that many districts in the province had recorded an increasing number of cases of dysentery.

The rise in the cases of the disease has been attributed to poor sanitation at household level in many districts.
