Persons with disabilities call for social cash transfer
Mongu Dec 4th, 2014, ZANIS —- Persons with disabilities in Mongu District of Western province have appealed to Government to include them on the social cash transfer and education bursaries in order to uplift their livelihood.
They have also requested government to create a department for them and be led by a disabled person in order to look into their affairs.
ZANIS reports that Mongu Organizing Chairperson for the International Day for Persons with Disabilities John Siyubo disclosed this during the day’s commemoration held at the Provincial Social Welfare ground in Mongu, yesterday.
Mr. Siyubo disclosed that the province has the highest number of disabled people in the country, adding that the social cash transfer should be introduced in Mongu in order for the disabled to benefit from the scheme as well.
This year’s world disability day celebrations were held under the theme: “ Sustainable development; the promise of technology.”
And Provincial Permanent Secretary Augustine Seyuba has directed the Provincial Social Welfare Office to compile information on social cash transfer from all the benefiting districts and submit to his office by Monday next week.
Mr. Seyuba stated that government cares for its people including the disabled hence the need for enactment of the persons with disabilities Act No. 06 of 2012.
