LAZ saddened by renewal of Justice Chibesakunda’s contract

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has described as a sad development the renewal of the contract for acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda by the President.

LAZ President George Chisanga has however told Qfm that LAZ does not have any formal notification of the reappointment of Justice Chibesakunda.

Mr. Chisanga says the position of LAZ with regards the appointment of Judges of the Supreme Courts on contract has not changed, adding that it is mainly on this consideration that they went to Court.

Mr. Chisanga says the association is still awaiting a hearing date on the application for leave to appeal against the High Court ruling which dismissed the action by LAZ to declare her appointment null and void.

President Michael Sata first appointed Justice Chibesakunda as acting Chief justice in May 2012, but Parliament failed to ratify her appointment on the grounds that she was older than the constitutionally prescribed age of 65.

  1. Sorrow is just a passing phase then life goes on. Let them enjoy themselves if all that can happen is a growl and back to sleep. This is the Zambia we have elected to live in whereas our colleagues are progressing we have chosen to remain stagnant! I have in mind ‘small’ Malawi whose governance structures have proven to be miles……Oooops!……kilometers ahead of ours.
