Opposition People’s Party Leader Mike Mulongoti has observed that the statement by Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda that there no funds being saved from the removal of subsidies on Maize and Fuel is confusing people in the country.

Mr. Mulongoti says by issuing such a statement, Mr. Chikwanda is also telling the people in the country that the removal of subsidies was not well intended.

Mr. Mulongoti says this is because some people in the country supported the move to lift subsidies on fuel and maize because they thought government was going to take the saved money to carter for other projects.

The People’s Party leader has observed that this is also why the Minister of Finance is confusing the nation as he seems to be contradicting government’s earlier statement as how the funds saved from the removal of subsidies were said will be utilized.

He notes that it is therefore imperative that Mr. Chikwanda comes out clearly and remove speculations in the minds of the people in the country who supported the removal of subsidies knowing that the money would be channeled to developmental projects.
