Two people, including a driver, sustained serious injuries when a Democratic Republic of Congo-bound truck carrying goods worth millions of Kwacha, overturned on Lusaka-Chirundu road.

The truck driver, identified as Chrispin Simoka, 29, a Zimbabwean national, had his left leg amputated and is admitted to M’tendere Mission Hospital in Chirundu.

And M’tendere Mission Hospital administrator, Edward Milambo, said the driver of the truck was in a stable condition after undergoing an operation.

The truck, registration number ACE 1487, hit a hump on the bridge and plunged into a gorge after losing control a few kilometres from Chirundu district.

A ZANIS crew which rushed to the scene found the victims already evacuated to M’tendere Mission Hospital in Chirundu.

Chirundu District Commissioner, Maxwell Syamalimba, expressed sadness at the incident and cautioned divers to observe traffic rules on the road to avoid accidents.
