Sudan came from a goal down to send off Chipolopolo of Zambia with a 2-1 win that romped them into the finals of the GOtv CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup after a crunch semi final on Tuesday 10 December 2013 at the Mombasa Municipal Stadium.

Ronald Kampamba opened the scoring in the 113th minute before Sudan restored parity through Miaaz Abdelrahim in the 117th minute but it was Salah Ibrahim who stretched every sinew in his muscle to ensure Sudan romps into the finals by scoring the winner in the dying moments sending hundreds of fans who bothered to turn out at the Buxton based Stadium into wild jubilations.

From a barren first half, Sudan came back to pick up from where they left from and could have opened the score lines in the 53rd minute had Arnier Kamal found the back of the net after driving through the Chipolopolo backline.

Spear head attacks

Three minutes later, Sudan were easily penetrating the Zambia defence but lacking that final finish to go ahead of the match as Faris Abdalla with a lone effort in the box was prevented by Nsabata Toaster for a fruitless corner.

Zambia reacted in the 63rd minute by pulling out Stanley Nshimbi for Gor Mahia target Julius Situmbeko to spear ahead attacks.

It almost paid off when Sydney Kalume controlled perfectly outside the 18 yard box with his pile driver rattling off the bar and back into the field of play, that happening in the 66thminute.

Fruitless corner

Felix Katongo then added his name in the centre referee’s book two minutes later after receiving a yellow for perhaps kicking the ball before the whistle.

With Zambia causing constant threats upfront, Sudan on their side made another change, withdrawing Faris Abdalla for Miaaaz Abdelnonem, that coming in the 71st minute.

Felix Katongo finding himself busy on the day latched on a pass inside the area but his shot was deflected for a fruitless corner with fifteen minutes to go.

Two minutes of added time

Coach Mubarak Suliman made his final change introducing Mohamed Abdelraham for Nadir Eltayib in the 79th minute as Zambia brought in Bornwell Mwape for Sydney Kalume.

Zambia had keeper Nsabata Toaster to thank after pouncing on Amier Kamal shot from close range with four minutes to full time.

With two minutes of added time, none had scored as the game headed into extra time with the first frame ending in a goalless draw.

Resumption

On resumption, Ronald Kampamba send shivers into his camp to put his team ahead in the 113th minute.

The Chipolopolo celebration did not last as Sudan equalized four minutes later through Miaaz Abdelraham but it was Salah Ibrahim’s classic goal that eliminated tournament visitors Zambia.

Finals

Ibrahim, latched on a pass from inside the box to sail into the net past goalkeeper Nsabata Toaster who dived in vain, the winning goal coming in the 120th minute.
