The project under the Nacala Corridor phase two is for the rehabilitation of the Great East Road from Luangwa Bridge to Mwami Border Post.
RDA regional manager Thomas Zimba said in Chipata yesterday that the contract was divided into four lots.
Mr Zimba said from Luangwa Bridge to Nyimba, Monta Engil was expected to cover 98 kilometres at a total sum of 37.1 million euros, while Condril would rehabilitate a stretch of 114 kilometres from Nyimba to Sinda at a cost of 49.7 million euros.
“Monta Engil is expected to also work from Sinda to Mtenguleni which is 95 kilometres at a total cost of 43.4 million euros and again from Mtenguleni to Mwami Border, which is 50 kilometres at a total sum of 37.9 million Euros,” he said.
Mr Zimba said the two contractors were expected to complete the works within 24 months , adding that they were currently at mobilisation stage in readiness to start the rehabilitation works.
He also said the upgrading of Chipata-Vubwi Road into bituminous standard by China Jiangxi International Corporation under the Link Zambia 8,000 road project was progressing well.
Mr Zimba said the contractor would further connect the road from Vubwi to Chadiza District to cover 139 kilometres at a total sum of K529, 047,638.88.
China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited was also working on roads leading to Chadiza town at a total sum of K713,114,097.33.
