Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) has observed that President Michael Sata’s threat to revoke Konkola Copper Mines’ mining license if the mine firm goes ahead to lay off more than 1,500 workers is not the best way to resolve the matter.

ZED president Fredrick Mutesa says it is not right to threaten KCM with revocation of its mining license because the mining company negotiated the purchase of its mining assets.

Speaking in an interview with QFM, Dr. Mutesa says this is why it is important that government engages in dialogue with KCM as opposed to issuing threats.

Dr. Mutesa says he hopes that all key stakeholders who include government, KCM management and the mine workers union in a tripartite arrangement will be able to look at the matter objectively.

Dr. Mutesa says threats such as those coming from the Head of State would have an adverse effect on the country’s investment profile.
