The Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Wilfred Serenje, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) for Abuse of Authority of Office contrary to section 99(1) of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

ACC Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono says details are that between 1st January 2008 and 31st November 2011, Mr. Serenje aged 55, of plot 166, Chainama Township, in Lusaka abused the authority of his office by allowing his personal motor vehicle Nissan Sunny registration number ABA 4525 to draw fuel and lubricants from the REA account held at Tiiseza Zambia Limited trading as Puma Service Station at Arcades Shopping Mall in Lusaka.

Mr Moono says Mr. Serenje has since been released on Bond with two working sureties in the sum of five thousand kwacha (K5,000) each and ten thousand kwacha (K10,000) for himself.

He says Mr Serenje is expected to appear in court on Monday 30th September, 2013.

Mr. Serenje’s contract with the REA was terminated on 9th November 2012 after the ACC instituted investigations into his conduct.
