Haarambe Stars brighten chances for COSAFA quarter finals

Kitwe, July 9th, ZANIS—Kenya this afternoon brightened their chances of qualifying to the quarter finals of the ongoing Confederation of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) Senior Challenge Cup.

This was after the Harambe stars beat Swaziland by 2 goals to nil to remain top of Group B with 4 points in a thrilling encounter played this afternoon at Arthur Davies stadium in Kitwe.

ZANIS Sports Reports that a goal each in each half was all Kenya needed to collect full maximum points and ensure they consolidate their chances of qualifying to the quarter finals of the COSAFA senior challenge cup.

Kenya put more pressure on the King Shields of Swaziland who also put up a gallant fight but failed to get to the back of the net.

At the same venue, Botswana squandered their chances of collecting full point’s allowing Lesotho to come three times from behind to hold them 3 all.

Jerome Ramatlhakwana was however the hero of the day after scoring a hat trick for Botswana in the 5th, 52th and 78th minutes.

However, Lesotho responded three times through a penalty scored in the 58th minute by Mokhahlane Ralekotisending sending Botswana goalie Noah Maposa in the wrong direction.

Lesotho then scored through Nkau Lerotholi in the 68th minute and sealed the day in the 90th minute through a hard fought for goal.

After two matches played so far, Kenya tops Group B with 4 points while Botswana and Lesotho now have two points each while Swaziland remains on the bottom of Group B with only a point.

On Thursday, Kenya will take on Botswana at Nkana stadium in Kitwe while Lesotho will take on Swaziland at Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka in their last game of Group B.

The winner of the Group B will face Angola in the quarter finals to be played at Nkana stadium in Kitwe on the 14th of July.
