MARY-TEMBO-CB-POLICEBy NANCY SIAME
POLICE in Luanshya are hunting for four men who allegedly threw a 35-year-old man of Mikomfwa into a well and left him for dead.
Copperbelt commissioner of police Mary Tembo said in an interview in Ndola yesterday that police have instituted investigations into the attempted murder.
Ms Tembo identified the man as Kelvin Kunda of house number D900 Mikomfwa in Luanshya. The incident happened on Monday around 23:00 hours while Mr Kunda was on his way home.
Ms Tembo said the four men confronted Mr Kunda and accused him of being a thief. He identified one of his assailants.
“One of them held him by the hand and the other three joined in grabbing him. Mr Kunda struggled but he was overpowered,” Ms Tembo said.
She said Mr Kunda managed to recognise one of them.
“He told the suspects that he knew them and they were unsettled. They threw him into a well near a bar at Mikomfwa D market,” Ms Tembo said.
She said Mr Kunda shouted for help and was only rescued around 05:30 hours the next morning. His helpers reported the matter to the police and rushed him to Thompson Hospital.
“A docket of attempted murder has been opened and investigations have been instituted but no arrests have been made yet,” Ms Tembo said.
