Teachers to get better salaries

The ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT has award teacher’s unions comprehensive package as part of this year’s improved condition of service.

During the signing ceremony with four unions on April 3rd in Lusaka Education permanent Secretary Chishimba Nkoshaya said government and the unions have agreed to implement results of the job valuation and regarding exercise in the public service with effect from September 1, 2013.

“That will among others address the issue of proper placement and progression of teachers, in view of this processes that have to be undertaken to implement the job evaluation results, government and the unions have agreed to effect the revised salaries and conditions of service with effect from September 1,this year,” said Nkoshya.

He disclosed that government and the unions have also agreed to implement the public service medical and funeral insurance schemes by June this year.

“The government has and the unions wishes to state that the public service credit union will be effected in June 2013, this will enable teachers to access loans at affordable rates for their personal development and welfare, we have further agreed with the unions to undertake an audit of qualifications and the institutional assessment of the ministry before the end of this year, this shall facilitate for proper placement of teachers in their appropriate salary scales,” said Nkoshya.
