OVP funds Mushili drainage construction
Ndola, March 7, ZANIS ——The Office of the Vice President has released KR 130 000 under the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to work on the blocked drainage system in Ndola’s Mushili township.
DMMU Regional Coordinator for Copperbelt province Edwin Muyunda said in an interview with ZANIS today that works have already commenced to ensure that there were no floods.
Mr Muyunda said DMMU has since given Rural Roads Department (RRD), Zambia National Service (ZNS) and the local authority in Ndola to finish the works within 15 days.
He explained that Ndola city council had initially received a grant and worked on some drainage in the area but that there were parts which were not worked on.
He added that DMMU was targeting the drainage that was left without being worked on by the local authority to ensure that Mushili township did not experience floods that lead to disasters.
Mr Muyunda said about 50 casual workers have been contracted to work on the drainage in Mushili and that works were progressing well.
