—–Government has observed that the provision of effective and good quality information to the people remains critical towards the economic development of the country.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Effron Lungu, noted that there is no country that can develop if no good quality information is provided to the people.

He reiterated government’s commitment in ensuring that the country is marketed through the provision of good quality information.

Dr Lungu said this when h,e together with Information and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister, Mwansa Kapeya, paid a courtesy call on Luanshya and Masaiti District Commissioners (DCs) Michael Tandeo and Joseph Mwambana respectively at their offices and visited Luanshya Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS ) offices on the Copperbelt.

Dr Lungu believed that if effective and accurate information is reported about the province a lot of local and foreign investors would continue visiting the area and identify areas where they can invest.

Dr Lungu pointed out that investors can only come and invest in the province if they know what good economic development projects the government has put in place for the benefit of the people.

He noted that some areas on the Copperbelt province have vast rich natural resources that can be marketed by providing quality information to the people.

Dr Lungu called on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services to ensure that ZANIS offices in the area are well equipped.

He added that this was vital in the area of assisting the country’s news agency to disseminate information and let people get to know the economic development being implemented by the government.

Meanwhile, Information and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister, Mwansa Kapeya, said government wants to strengthen ZANIS in information delivery towards the economic development of the province.

He assured that his ministry would work tirelessly to equip ZANIS offices not only on the Copperbelt but the country as a whole.

Mr Kapeya mentioned that with such equipment, ZANIS would be able to play a pivotal role in good quality information dissemination for the economic development of the province and Zambia as a whole.

He also said the Patriotic Front (PF) government was not interested in cheap politicking but was there to see the country develop in order for all the people to economically benefit by all means possible.

Mr Kapeya further noted that this was why people should be provided with the necessary information for them to see what economic projects the government was undertaking and spearheading to the members of the public.
