DEC nabs 49 drug traffickers countrywide

The Drug Enforcement Commission(DEC) has arrested forty nine people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.

DEC Public Relations Officer, Theresa Katongo confirmed this in a statement received by ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday.

Those arrested are Lillian Mulenga, 21, of Namulundu village in Kasama District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 43.1kg and Faustina Kaunga, 20, of Mwashimaula village in Itezhi-tezhi District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 22.9kg, said Ms Katongo.

 

She said others arrested include an 18 year old boy of Munte farm in Serenje District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 13.9kg.

 

Ms Katongo said also arrested and jointly charged is Charles Muyamba, 28, of Chantete area in Solwezi District and Stan Muyamba, 30, of the same abode for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 30kg.
She further said in Eastern Province those arrested and jointly charged include John Phiri, 35, a Peasant farmer of Kamiloni village in Sinda District and Samson Zulu, 45, a Peasant farmer of Simbala village in Sinda District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 3.8kg.

 

And in Shang’ombo District, Ms Katongo said the Commission has arrested Lubinda Muyambango, 42, of Mulangu village for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 5kg and Kafuti Kamuti, 35, of Shang’ombo village for trafficking in 1.2kg of loose cannabis.

 

She stated that all suspects will be appearing in court soon.-ZANIS
