Notorious Namwala cattle rustlers arrested
Namwala, October 14, 2014,ZANIS—Police in Namwala district have arrested three notorious cattle rustlers who have been terrorizing the area the past four years.
Namwala Police officer in charge Kingly Lwaano confirmed the development to ZANIS in Namwala today.
Police have named the trio as Jones Hantuba, 43 of Butele village, Mwaaba Nabwen gwa aged 31 of Muntimwaangoma village and 30 year-old Matchaka Nantenda of Maunga all of chief Nalubamba’s area in Namwala district.
The three were arrested after a tip from members of the public in Chitongo area on October 11,2014 around 03:00 hours.
Police said the three cattle rustlers had a system of stealing and later kill the animals before selling the carcasses.
Police also recovered a Canter truck registration number ALV 2214 which was loaded with 6 carcasses while the driver Patson Ncube and two others identified as Patrick Mfumo and Bonny Mfumo all of Chitongo area are on the run.
Police in Namwala have since appealed to all those with information leading to the arrest of the suspects to report to nearest police station.
The arrested trio are currently detained at Namwala police station and will soon appear in court soon.
The operation was conducted in conjunction with State Police in Namwala district and the anti stock theft team of Chitongo area.
