Teachers abandon Chipeketi Primary School in Rufunsa district

Chongwe, July 11, ZANIS……Teachers at Chipeketi Primary School in Rufunsa district have run away from the school after unknown people allegedly murdered a male relative to one of the three teachers that were serving at the school.

Pupils at the school are now being taught by local volunteers who have been mobilized after the three trained government teachers fled the school.

One of the affected Teacher whose relative was murdered Kasiwa Mukelebai confirmed the development to ZANIS Chongwe.

Ms. Kasiwa said she has left the school together with her two colleagues because they fear for their lives.

And Chongwe District Education Board Secretary, Duncan Banda in-charge of Rufunsa district, confirmed the development to ZANIS adding that he has deployed the teachers to different schools.

Mr. Banda said he was forced to transfer the three affected teachers because some unknown people were sending them death threats through text messages.

The DEBS, however, said he was making arrangements to send new teachers to the school in order to ensure that the provision of services is not permanently disrupted.

In May this year, unknown people allegedly murdered Gaspa Mwansa 25, a relative to Ms. Kasiwa Mukekebai and threw in his body in Rufunsa River.

The body was discovered after three weeks in a decomposed state with some parts eaten by marine creatures.

And on 28th last month a male student of Chongwe College of Education  in Chongwe District Victor Mbwenya was discovered dead after having gone missing for two weeks.
