The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) in Luangwa District has impounded 227 X 25Kg bags of mealie- meal which was about to be smuggled into neigbouring Mozambique.

ZANIS reports that   ZRA Luangwa District station Manager, Chris Lombe confirmed the incident in an interview in Luangwa District, today.

Mr. Lombe has revealed that his office has impounded 227 X 25Kg bags of meali- meal which was about to be smuggled into neigbouring Zumbo District in Mozambique.

He added that his alert officers impounded the contraband from a Mozambique businessperson who had ordered it from Lusaka.

He said the Mozambique businessperson did not have the required documentations such as the export certificate, which should accompany all agriculture products going outside the
country.

And Luangwa District Commissioner, Eunie Mumba has commended ZRA for its quick response in controlling smuggling in the District.

Mr. Mumba told ZANIS that there was a lot of smuggling going on in the District especially with mealie- meal and fuel which Government provides to benefit the people of Luangwa.

The District Commissioner urged all security wings in the area to work as a team and curb this vice which has a negative impact on the people in the District.

He said the PF Government wants Zambians to benefit from its programmes and policies and not outsiders from neigbouring countries.
