President Michael Sata has sent a message of grief and condolences to the families of the 16 people who have died in a road traffic accident involving a minibus which collided with a truck along Kabwe Road near Ibis Gardens this morning April 30th.

The President said he is immensely saddened by this sudden loss of more innocent and precious lives in yet another road traffic accident involving public transport on the same road.

President Sata said this in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today by his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, George Chellah.

The President has sent the message of condolences to the aggrieved families on behalf of his cabinet, the First Lady and on his own behalf.

He said, “we share the pains and sorrow of the bereaved families and beseech the Almighty God to grant the families comfort and strength during this extremely painful moment”.

President Sata has, however, directed the Zambia Police Service and the Road Traffic and Safety Agency (RTSA) to promptly ascertain what exactly occurred and consequently ensure that the law takes its course.

Mr Sata noted that urgent practical interventions need to be undertaken to avert the continuous loss of innocent lives on the roads.

He further wished the injured travellers a speedy recovery.
