–Namwala district commissioner Gevar Nsanzya  says that the Patriotic Front government is committed to uplifting the standards of living of the vulnerable people in  society.

Mr Nsanzya said government is concerned about the welfare of  widows, orphans and youths.

The Namwala DC was speaking during celebrations to mark Youth Day celebrations yesterday at Namwala High School.

He added that the government of Zambia under the leadership of  President Micheal Sata has come up with  empowerment programmes aimed at resolving the challenges faced by the Zambian youths.

Mr.Nsanzya observed that the most challenge the youths face in Zambia today is vulnerability to poverty due to lack of employment.

He pointed out that in order to address this situation, the government through the Ministry of Sports, Youth and Child Development, facilitates empowerment through the youth development fund.

The overall objective of the youth fund is to disburse loans and grants to individual youths, youth groups and youth enterprises for promotion of youth participation and involvement in wealth and employment creation.

Mr.Nsanzya further said that government has recognized youth empowerment as an integral component of national development, as such each year the government has allocated funds towards youth development programs in the national budget to use in youth empowerment schemes.

He said that apart from the youth development fund, the government has also established youth training centers in livingstone, chipata, kitwe and Kafue for training in various survival skills.
