Government has completed the 2013 distribution of farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) in Eastern Province.

Provincial Agricultural Coordinator, Obvious Kabinda, said the distribution exercise has seen 161,690 maize farmers, 1,420 sorghum farmers, 1,500 groundnuts farmers and 9,710 cotton farmers benefitting.

Dr Kabinda described the exercise as successful as all the farmers who were intended to benefit got their share of the inputs.

He has advised farmers to manage their fields accordingly if the province was to record another bumper harvest.

Dr Kabinda also said OMNIA Fertilizer has replaced the bags of fertilizer that went missing in Chadiza district.

He explained that OMNIA was asked to replace the 425 bags of ‘D’ Compound and 1, 298 bags of Urea fertilizer that went missing at their storage sheds in Chadiza district.

Dr Kabinda has maintained that his office has not received any report of underweight fertilizer being given to farmers.

Some farmers in Chadiza and Lundazi districts have complained of being given underweight fertilizer.
