ECZ commences voter education in Mkushi District ahead of the 20/14 polls
Mkushi, December 12th, 2014, ZANIS —– The Electoral Commission of Zambia has commenced its voter education activities in Mkushi District.
This is part of its nationwide preparations for the January 20th 2015 Presidential elections.
Mkushi District Council Treasurer Mainga Sifaya announced the development when he represented Mkushi District Electoral Officer(DEO) Judith Sinkala during an ECZ voter education training workshop, yesterday.
Mr. Sifaya pointed out that reducing rejected ballot papers were amongst the cardinal targets that the ECZ was aiming at during the forthcoming elections.
He added that the objective was to record not more than one percent spoilt ballot papers on polling day.
He said that it was therefore imperative for the District Voter Education Committee(DVEC) as well as the Voter Education Facilitators(VEFS) to work towards achieving this target.
He also mentioned that the District was aiming for a high voter turnout on polling day, saying that the onus was on the effectiveness of voter education activities by DVECs and VEFs.
The Presidential elections had been set for 20th January next year following the death of Republican President Michael Sata, who passed away on 28th October 2014.
