ZAMBIA’S tennis ace, Edgar Kazembe on Wednesday stormed the quarter-finals of the 2013 Lubumbashi Open Championship in the Democratic Republic of Congo after dwarfing local favourite, Phillipe Mwaka 2-0.
Kazembe out-muscled Mwaka 6-4 in the first set before rolling over him 6-1 in the second set to book a last eight clash date against another Congolese, Arnold Ikondo, who knocked out Kombe Mabo of Zambia.
In his first game, Kazembe bashed Deo Kimundu also of Congo 6-0, 6-0.
By Press time yesterday, the Zambian top seed was trying to avenge his compatriot’s loss to Ikondo.
Zambia Tennis Association (ZTA) president, Francis Musonda, who released the results yesterday, said the association was hopeful that Kazembe would go all the way to win the Lubumbashi Open.
