Lusaka, Wednesday, 06 May 2018……The Kitwe trials of the Shield/Chelsea football talent search will take place on the 11th and 12th of June at Kitwe Grounds starting at 7:30 AM. The campaign moves into it’s first stage of trials of selecting 30 raw talent footballers from both Copperbelt and Lusaka.  After Kitwe, the second trials for Lusaka will be held on 19th and 20th at the Fallsway Arena.

The campaign is an initiative by Unilever through their Shield brand which partnered with Chelsea football to promote football at a grassroots level by offering youths between the ages of 18-25years the opportunity to showcase their soccer talent.

The partnership will see one lucky Zambian joining other young Africans to form a team of Africa XI that will get an opportunity of a lifetime to play against the Chelsea Legends in London.

“All is now set for the Kitwe trials and we look forward to a larger turn out. So far we have received an overwhelming response with more than 253 entries for Kitwe and 276 for Lusaka received on our WhatsApp and SMS platforms as well as entries from amateur football clubs over the last few weeks. Those who have not yet entered the competition can still come through to Kitwe Grounds provided they have a Shield deodorant product with them,” said Susan Luneta, The Deodorant Brand Manager for Unilever Zambia.

The try-outs for Lusaka and Copperbelt will be overseen by three local football coaches, who include Christopher Katongo, Kalililo Kakonje and Kampamba Chintu who have all endorsed the initiative.

A total of 15 youths will be selected from the Copperbelt trials. The final players will then go to a one-week boot camp session in July. In the last 2 days of the boot camp (on the 28th and 29th of July), 3 Chelsea Coaches will be coming to Lusaka proceeding with scouting process to pick the final winner who will go to Cobham in the UK to train and play against Chelsea legends.

The competition which was launched on the 18th of April in Lusaka, is open to Zambian citizens (both male and female) aged 18-25 years. To enter, one has to purchase any Shield product and send a picture of their receipt to 0972888720. Once the entry has gone through, participants will be invited for the trials either on the Copperbelt or Lusaka. All entrants must bring a Shield product to the try-outs, from there, they will need to showcase their talent on the field. The final 30 players (from both Lusaka and the Copperbelt will be selected based on skill. The 30 players will then go to the final boot camp session in July.
