Defence Minister, Richwell Siamunene has reiterated that Zambia will start using the defence and security wings to curb the escalating levels of poaching in the country.

Julius Sakala reports that Mr. Siamunene has further observed that such cases are not just peculiar to Zambia, but the region as well.

The Minister therefore says Zambia will have to learn from other countries, which have undertaken similar measures to curb poaching.

Mr Siamunene says the agreement by Zambia and Namibia to use the defence forces in this manner is timely.

He has explained that the public will however be sensitized on these measures, because some will be done jointly with other countries.

Mr Siamunene was speaking in an interview in Swakopmund, Namibia, after the close of the Zambia Namibia Joint Permanent Commission –JPC- 19th session.

Meanwhile, Mr Siamunene has described the 19th JPC as highly successful.
