-Northern Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe has appealed to civil servants in the province to be proactive and ensure developmental programmes are fully implemented in the area.

Mr Sikazwe made the appeal when he addressed provincial heads of departments at the Provincial Conference Hall in Kasama today.

He said the new PF government had only one year and two months in which to prove to the Zambian people that they can deliver development to their expectations.

The Provincial minister warned that he will not entertain public service workers who were sluggish and incompetent in their work culture.

Mr Sikazwe has since called on Provincial Heads to report challenges faced in the departments to his office so that they could be sorted out.

He added that an effective and efficient civil service was important in the performance of any government.

During the meeting, Mr Sikazwe also pointed out the urgent need to address some burning issues concerning the operations of ZESCO, Chambeshi Water and Sewarage Company, some schools and the administration of the Youth Empowerment fund in the province.

He said there was need for civil servants to understand their role and work to improve service delivery in the province.

Mr Sikazwe also emphasized the need for discipline among workers for them to be effective in the implementation of their duties.

The meeting was also attended by some district commissioners and representatives of local authorities in the province.

President Edgar Lungu recently re-appointed Mr Sikazwe as Northern Province minister.
