——Muchinga Province Road Development Agency (RDA) Regional Manager, Samuel Twasa, has said government has plans to rehabilitate the Great North road from Serenje to Nakonde district.

Mr Twasa said this yesterday during a stakeholders meeting between RDA, Africa Development Bank (ADB) and various stakeholders held at the council chamber in Nakonde district.

He said government has plans to rehabilitate the great North Road from Serenje to Nakonde with an emphasis from Chinsali to Nakonde district.

The RDA Regional Manager said the road will be widened from 6.1meters to 7meters wide.

He said each lane will be 3.5 meters and pavement layers will be constructed too.

Mr Twasa, however, said government, through the RDA, has engaged an emergency contractor to work on the bad portions of the Great North Road as they wait for the main rehabilitation project to begin.

Meanwhile, Africa Development Bank (ADB) representative, Richard Malinga, said the 210 km road project will be done in lots and is expected to be complete in 30 months.

He said the first lot will be from Chinsali to Isoka while the second lot will be from Isoka to Nakonde district.

Mr Twasa also said as part of a bonus funding from ADB, 50 km feeder roads will be done and will be shared among three districts, namely Chinsali, Isoka and Nakonde.
