Whirl winds destroy Luwingu schools

Luwingu, July 30, 2014, ZANIS – A whirl wind has blown off a one by two class room block at Michelo primary school in chief Tungati area of Luwingu district in the Northern province.

And the Luwingu District Education Standards Office has revealed to ZANIS that a number of school infrastructure in the outskirts of the district have had their roofing sheets blown-off by heavy winds that have characterized the area.

Meanwhile, Michelo School head teacher Elpidius Shimulopwe confirmed that the whirl wind which swept through the school premises last Saturday blew off a one by two classroom block leaving the school authority helpless as they have no funds to immediately replace the iron sheets.

Mr Shimulopwe appealed to the ministry of education to allocate fund to the school to replace the materials before the rain season starts.

He said Luwingu is one of the districts in the Northern Province which receives serious rains as early as September and October adding that if nothing was done now it would be difficult for the administration to run the institution.

In a related development, ZANIS reports that government through the Road Development Agency (RDA) plans to rehabilitate the Nsombo-Michelo-Lundu road .

This will ease the problems faced by farmers to transport their agricultural produce to Chibofwe and other satellite depots in the area due to the poor state of the road.
