Govt. distributes six drilling rigs to provinces
Lusaka, July 25, 2014, ZANIS— Government has advised provincial Water Officers in the country to ensure that they put the newly procured drilling rigs to good use.
Energy Permanent Secretary Charity Mwansa says this was because government is committed to ensure that all Zambians particularly those in rural parts of the country have access to safe drinking water.
ZANIS reports that Ms. Mwansa said this when she officially handed over the six drilling rigs government recently procured at a cost of K17 million to six provinces.
The six provinces that have received the drilling rigs are Luapula, Muchinga, Northern, Western, North Western and Eastern Provinces.
And Ms Mwansa further says government is in the process of procuring an additional four drilling rigs to carter for the remaining provinces.
Meanwhile, Ms Mwansa has told ZANIS in an interview that her Ministry will partner with the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) to train more officers on the correct usage of the drilling rigs.
She said this is in order to foster a professional correct usage of the drilling rigs for the effective implementation of ground water development in Zambia.
