Maputo gives KK honorary citizenship

First republican President Kenneth Kaunda has been bestowed with an honorary citizenship of the Republican of Mozambique by President Armando Guebuza.

 
This is according a press release issued by the Zambian High Commission in Maputo, June 27.

 

Dr Kaunda was awarded the citizenship on 25th June during celebrations marking the 39th Mozambican Independence at the Presidential palace in Maputo.

 
Dr Kaunda’s honour is in recognition of the role he played in the liberation of Mozambique.

 
And speaking after receiving the award, Dr Kaunda said he was humbled by the recognition and praised Mozambique for the achievements it has scored in 39 years.

 
The first republican was honoured alongside Tanzania President Julius Nyerere, former Botswana President Sir Seretse Khama and former Algerian President Ahmed Bela.

 
While in Maputo, Dr Kaunda took part in a wreath laying ceremony at the Heroes Square and met family members of the late Samora Machel.
