MMD President Nevers Mumba has charged that the people of Mkushi South and other constituencies where there are pending by elections are being held hostage.

Dr. Mumba says this is not only unconstitutional but an infringement on people’s rights as they are being denied representation in Parliament.

He says residents of Mkushi South are no longer able to communicate their challenges to government because their mouth piece has been taken away.

Dr Mumba states that the constitution demands that a constituency can only be without a Member of Parliament for 3 months, but that people in the affected constituencies have had no representation in parliament for more than ten months in some cases.

He has challenged the judiciary to work expeditiously on the pending court cases and ensure that people do not continue to be left out of the country’s developmental agenda due to lack of representation in Parliament.
