Zambia draft Constitution

The opposition Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM has described the assurance by Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba that the draft constitution will not be doctored and that the President was still waiting for the committee to release it to him as too vague to be understood.

ZDDM vice president Charles Kafumbo told ZANIS in Lusaka on March 31st that inasmuch as the people of Zambia appreciate the assurance from the Mr. Kabimba, it would be better if he had given the timeframe of when citizens can expect to have the draft constitution.

He said Mr. Kabimba should tell the people of Zambia when they can expect the draft constitution to be released instead of just assuring them of not tampering with the document.

Mr. Kafumbo further said the draft constitution should be released because the 2016 elections were drawing closer.

He stressed that the draft constitution should be released so that whoever wins the 2016 presidential elections does not win with a minority vote.

He also said government should inform the people when the referendum will take place so that voter registration can start in preparation for the 2016 elections.

The Minister of Justice Wynter Kabimba is quoted to have said in Kabwe over the weekend that the draft constitution will not be doctored and that the President was still waiting for the committee of drafting the new constitution to release it to him.
