Jackson Kalaba wins three titles at the 2013 National Junior Tennis Championships

TOP seed, Jackson Kalaba at the weekend won three titles at the 2013 National Junior Tennis Championships in Ndola, giving more hope to the growth of the Zambian sport.
Kalaba from So Chabe Tennis Academy in Lusaka needed a tie-breaker to beat his club mate, Ching Wang 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 to be crowned champion for the boys’ 18 and under category.
To reach the final, Kalaba knocked out third seed Lwanga Lumbeta with a 6-3, 6-4 scoreline while Wang, the fourth seed, caused an upset by beating seed two, Mwele Chiwena 6-4, 5-6, 6-2 in the semi-finals.
Kalaba went on to win the boys’ 16 and under event when he trounced Yannick Mwiinga 6-4, 6-2 in the final before wrapping up the day with a doubles title when he partnered Chiwena?to beat the pair of Mwiinga and James Kaoma 6-2, 6-1.
In the boys’ under-14, Mwiinga finally put back a smile on his face when he shocked seed one, Nabusanga Hamayangwe 6-4, 6-2 to win the championship while Barnabas Kalaba romped to victory in the boys’ under-12 category when he thrashed Kachi Meja 6-2, 6-0.
