Katete District  ‘ freezes ‘

Katete, July 12, 2013, ZANIS…Katete District at the foot of the Mphangwe hills yesterday, experienced some showers that  threatened lives of both made people and animals freeze due to the cold temperatures experienced in the area.

The rains led to some farmers in the township panic with their produce as the (maize) was stored in open silos.

Concerned farmers in the area lamented that the continued rains destroy  their produce.

Richard Zulu a farmer said the most worrying thing was that the maize moisture content was still high and with the rains experienced in the district might damage the produce.

He however, appealed  to the Ministry of Agriculture to extended the construction of metal silos to all parts of the district to enable them be readily available to farmers to store their produce in reliable silos.

He has since urged other farmers to desist from using roof tops as storage for their produce.

Efforts to get a comment from the metrological officer failed by broadcast time.
