—The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) in Muchinga Province is appealing to government to consider purchasing vehicles for the Ministry of Education in the province.

ZCTU regional co-ordinator for Muchinga Province, Nondo Kasanda, made the appeal in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Nakonde today.

Mr Kasanda observed that many District Education Offices are still facing a serious transport challenge in the province.

He said this has also made most of the Education Standards Officers (ESO) to be finding it difficult to monitor and distribute examination papers to various schools during exams time.

Mr Kasanda said it is for this reason that government needs to quickly buy vehicles for workers in order to improve service delivery in the region.

He noted that if the situation goes unchecked it is likely to adversely affect the work and performance of pupils in the province.

Mr Kasanda has also commended the office of the Provincial Education Officer in Muchinga Province for its commitment towards the improvement of the welfare of teachers so as to motivate them.
